In the early days, the average mother has lots of breastfeeding questions, even when everything is going smoothly. You will be amazed at how much you can (or just want to) talk about this. Here are some different options for answers and support:
Go online
The internet is a convenient first port of call – in fact, you’ll probably get pretty good at tapping out urls with one hand while cradling a nursing baby in the other. Kellymom, La Leche League and Breastfeeding Online are good places to start – we’ll also keep adding useful breastfeeding links to the links section of this site.
You can also post questions or just browse in our Parent Vine Breastfeeding Forum, which is moderated by lactation consultants and doulas here in Bangkok.
Connect with other mothers
It is so helpful (and fun) to talk to other mothers who have or are breastfeeding. La Leche League offers regular meetings, each focusing on a particular breastfeeding-related topic. The Breastfeeding Cafe is an informal weekly get-together where new mothers gather at a cozy cafe with comfy sofas. Just show up at either group, no registration or advance notice necessary. Professional lactation consultants are often on hand if you have questions. BAMBI Bumps & Babies is another mother-to-mother support group where mothers can share questions about breastfeeding.
Talk to a professional
Make an appointment with one of the many lactation consultants here in Bangkok. Some are associated with hospitals, others operate independently. Bear in mind that breastfeeding is not an exact science, and lactation consultants can have very different approaches and philosophies. If a particular consultant is not working out for you, don’t hesitate to contact another. See our directory listings under breastfeeding support for more information.
