The BBC was SO helpful to me when P was a newborn and I couldn’t make head nor tail of the instructions that came with the sling I had bought. I went to a meeting and got face-to-face help positioning her properly, and enjoyed the coffee and chat to boot! I only wish I had gone there when pregnant and looked at their sling library before I spent all that money ordering carriers from the US…
Hi,
In October I’ll be travelling to the UK (from Chiang Rai). My oldest boy will be 18mnths and the youngest 6 months. I’m guessing we’ll use a push chair or baby sling for the youngest but am considering using a framed back pack style carrier for the oldest.
Any suggestions/recomendations as to a good reasonably priced one and where to find it?
Much appreciated,
Rob
Hi Rob,
I haven’t seen any backpack frame carriers in Bangkok, though I haven’t checked the camping stores; even then I doubt they would have them here. You’d probably be better off buying one in the UK – trying one in the store before buying one would be best since those carriers are already quite heavy and you want to make sure you’re as comfortable as can be wearing it.The branded ones cost a lot (I have heard many good things about Deuter, a German brand) but you might be able to try a no-name carrier that could do its job. In the US, some big retailers offer unknown backpack frame carriers e.g. at Toys ‘R Us.Perhaps in the UK, too? It also depends how much you think you’d use it. You could potentially use it for a long time — and hence justify the investment — since you have a young baby who could also eventually sit in it! Or you could probably try buying one second-hand? That way it would be much cheaper.
Sorry I can’t be more helpful! Are you passing by Bangkok before you go to the UK in October? Good luck with the upcoming arrival of #2!
Cari
Thanks Cari,
I’ve just popped down to BKK and found the carrier in Paragon mothercare. it was 7,000Bt and very uncomfortable, so needless to say it stayed in the shop! Back to the drawing board…..
Cheers,
Rob
